Basic Obedience  Training includes sit/stay; heel; here; whistle commands; load up; kennel and collar conditioning, unless otherwise requested. All levels of retriever training require basic obedience.

Started Hunting Retriever Training includes obedience; collar conditioning; force fetch; exposure to guns, decoys, and birds; and experience retrieving single marks in various types of cover and terrain, on both land and water.
A Started Hunting Retriever is obedient, remains steady to wing and shot, and will retrieve single marked birds delivered to hand. This training typically takes 3 – 4 months depending on the dog’s desire, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn.

Intermediate Hunting Retriever Training includes that of a Started Hunting Retriever, with longer retrieves and more exposure to cover. Additionally, Intermediate Hunting Retrievers will learn multiple marks, the remote sit, hand signals, and blind retrieves. Dogs receive extensive training in drills designed to teach concepts they will utilize in both hunting and hunt test situations.
An Intermediate Hunting Retriever is obedient off lead, remains steady to wing, shot and fall, will retrieve multiple marked birds, and can be handled on simple blind retrieves. The duration of training is dependent on the owner’s desired level of expertise, but an additional 3 – 6 months can be expected.

Advanced Hunting Retriever Training includes that of Started and Intermediate Hunting Retrievers with longer, more challenging retrieves, and more exposure to difficult cover and terrain. Additionally, Advanced Hunting Retrievers will perform challenging multiple marks and difficult blind retrieves. Dogs receive extensive training in drills designed to teach complex concepts they will utilize in both hunting and hunt test situations.
An Advanced Hunting Retriever is very obedient off lead, remains steady to wing, shot and fall, will retrieve multiple marked birds, and can be handled on long blind retrieves. The duration of training is indefinite and dependent on the owner’s desired level of expertise.
